Creativitea team up Marchon Eyewear

New client Marchon Eyewear - one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of quality eyewear and sunwear

Marchon is latest client to be added to the grow portfolio of Creativitea.

Since its founding in 1983, Marchon Eyewear has grown into one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of quality eyewear and sunwear. There extensive portfolio has some of the world’s most prestigious fashion and sport brands featuring Calvin Klein, Coach, Disney, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Jil Sander, Michael Kors, Nautica, Nike, Sean John, X Games to complement its strong Marchon house brands.

Marchon is consistently recognized for bringing new designs and technologies to the eyewear market. For example, there Flexon memory metal created an entirely new material category for eyeglass frames.

Marchon approached Creativitea early this year to work on there local marketing solutions based in the UK and Irleand. Working on POS, advertising, Content Creation, print and various direct marketing materials.

With projects commencing straight away a successful working relationship has been built and with everyday growing.

With our first project now completed, a Marketing mailer to show the current product collection of Marchon, below is our design for a product guide to represent Marchon’s current range. With Marchon’s brand identity expressing values such as modern, minimal, fashionable and cool, there was a need to bring a strong brand character that would complement the high fashion brands Marchon work with.

The result was a clean and modern design, using key elements of the Marchon brand with the strong imagery of the fashion brands being pulled together to create a booklet that would be able to become a state of art in the market.

2egro character illustration – Dylan and Maria

2ergo character design by Creativitea. Article by: Rob Acuna/ Illustrator and artworker

Let us introduce to you, the act you’ve known for all these years…Maria and Dylan!

O.k., so you have no idea who they are – yet, but soon Dylan and his beautiful girl Maria will be unleashed upon the world in a short animation showing the VoucherNet system for new client 2ergo.

We were approached last year by 2ergo, a successful mobile marketing company (and the guys behind Orange Wednesday), to design characters and environments for an animation featuring VoucherNet, a system designed to implement the Orange Wednesday film offer, showing the quick and easy way for customers to get free stuff like restaurant meals and tickets for all sorts of events, and for companies to gather data to tailor such free stuff to particular customers, or to customers particulars, depending on how you look at it.

Anime and the TokiDoki brand of toys and artwork inspired the characters Dylan and Maria. Here’s a quick sample of the design process, from the initial drawings to the finished animation, due March 2010!

HTML5 and the ‘canvas’ tag

Video Title: HTML5 Image Uploader
Video Description: Mozilla’s Paul Rouget gives a demo of an image uploader created using only Open Web technologies.

My role at Creativitea* is lead web designer which means I am always looking at articles and posts about the future of web design and web development. Recently I have been reading about HTML5 which is just round the corner. HTML5 the fifth major revision of the core language of the world wide web. This revision is rumored to really shake things up and add simplicity and some real creative and fun elements to our markup.

Now one of the many new tags that I keep hearing about is the Canvas Tag which was originally introduced by Apple for use in their own web kit component for use in their Dashboard and Safari. Canvas consists of a drawable region with width and height attributes which allows for dynamically placed drawing functions for use in image galleries, games, animations and charts.

Now I am sure this is going to be a nightmare to cross browser test and will be some debate in the community about Apple’s input but hey, as the video shows, this looks to be something quite exciting which I am hoping to be as accessible as one would expect in this day and age of web development, who knows it may even work on the iPhone or iPad!

Personally I am looking forward to have a play and possibly use it on a photography site or anything really!

Best Brief Ever

The best client brief ever!

Every now and again someone sends us gold. And this has to be it.

The brief from a client can be a nightmare for some designers, although it’s something that here at tea we enjoy; the process and the excitement of a new project and its out come.

But below has to be one of the best briefs you can get.

The brief was from Mick Jagger to Andy Warhol for an album cover design for the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers, released in April 1971.

The resulting product was a one of the most original and unique album cover designs done. The design famously featured a crotch clad in tight jeans with a working zipper that opened to reveal a man in cotton briefs.

The design was conceived by American Pop artist Andy Warhol, photographed by Billy Name and designed by John Pasche. But the design had caused problems after retailers complained that the zipper was causing damage to the vinyl from stacked shipments of the record. The zipper was “unzipped” slightly to the middle of the record, where damage would be minimized. The album cover also features the first usage of the “Tongue and Lip Design” also designed by John Pasche.

We have had the great luck in seeing this design in the flesh as one of the studio members parents owns a original of this album, and it is a truly great example of how creative you can be with this platform.
