Inception Film Review by Roberto Acuna

The seventh film from Christopher Nolan, the director of arguably the best superhero film ever made and fast becoming one of my favourite directors, is here, and it’s a dream. (Sorry).

Film Review
We have the balls

My wife is pregnant with our second son and is blooming! Those of you who have had this amazing experience or are going through it will know that pregnant women are 'great'. My wife developed a heightened sense of smell which made her heave at the smell of most washing detergents and fabric softeners.

The World Cup Viewing Experience

Surfing Youtube recently, I came across this funny little piece of World Cup association. Trying to include those who have missed the football by accident or design, Youtube has very graciously included a button feature on their videos that goes some way to replicating the viewing experience of World Cup 2010.

A small icon on the right side of the settings bar, the football symbol almost slipped me by, as it seemed to have always been there. I pressed the icon out of curiosity, only to have me jump out of my skin, and have my ear drums explode (I was using earphones at the time).

We Are The World Cup Appreciation Society!

I’ve tried to ignore it. I’ve gone with a lifetime habit and just said I’m not into it. It’s not my thing. Though not my choice, most of the time I welcomed the sound of a match as a nice change of pace from the usual bands or films we put on in the background, but that was the limit of my involvement, the peak of my interest. Just something different to listen to while at work.

Half geek – half luddite

Today I was flicking through my Facebook page and found some old notes from a blog long forgotten and I came across this article from howies.co.uk which is quite old now but I still hold close to my heart….

Half geek – half luddite

“I am a contradiction.

On one hand I love broadband, but I also love food the old slow way.

I love apple computers, but as for the apples I eat, well, I don’t want them to be sprayed with chemicals.

I love the fact that e-mail lets me to talk to the world, but I like to shop local for our vegetables.

Four Lions Film Review

The film debut of Brass Eye mastermind Chris Morris was always going to be an event to savour for some, and one to revile for others. The man did not disappoint. The subject for his debut comedy was unsurprisingly surprising: Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. A cornerstone of any great comedy.

Luckily for me I like my comedy dark.

Good luck England!

Just a quick post to wish our boys the best of luck in South Africa! The TV is tuned, the beer is cold, we’ve listened to the England songs on spotify countless times. It’s time for the big one!

COME ON ENGLAND!

World Cup (Sticker) Fever

The World Cup in South Africa is nearly upon us and we here at the office (well, two thirds) have started to get in the spirit of things: getting the beers and barbecue in ready for the big game, checking out the Rocky Horror Picture Show hairstyles of yesteryear, salivating at the prospect of our boys losing again, and buying the official World Cup sticker album! What better way to show your love for your country than by collecting the team in small rectangular form, showing your support for the players with ever so slightly crooked stuck on portraits? Those were the days!

Iron Man 2 Review (contains spoilers)

Two years after the original came out of nowhere, ol’ shellhead returns to the big screen, and with no batsuits or spider webs anywhere in sight, he might get the summer all to himself. But would he deserve it?

Well, kind of.

History of an archetype: The Batman Emblem

Fitting the description of an archetype perfectly, the Batman emblem is one that was in place when the Dark Knight made his debut nearly 7 decades ago, and one from which all subsequent designs have been based, some more drastically different than others, but all recognisable as Batman’s insignia.

When the Batman first appeared in 1939 in the pages of Detective Comics; a dour figure in black and grey against a bright yellow sky, the emblem blazed across his chest ready made. The archetype had been set: a single black bat, wings spread wide, with the ears of the Batman’s cowl.
