A fresh approach

Our Toy Story

tea_blog_image.jpg

Hi all, things are getting a bit manic in the studio now with the increasing volume of toys the tea*m keep introducing to the shelves.

We get asked all the time about our collection by visiting clients and suppliers. They basically love our collection and always want to know why we have so much about the work place. The answer is three fold…

Rik’s in training for charity ride…

The British Heart Foundation

Rik, the digital director at Tea* started his training this week to raise money for The British Heart Foundation. This charity that means allot to Rik as his Grandfather and Late Aunt suffered with heart problems throughout their adult life.

Rik is riding a 35 mile route from Brighton to Eastbourne via The South Downs Way in June, which is part of one of the most challenging routes in The UK.

Tea* on Firefox Persona!

The new exclusive tea* header for Firefox Persona

Firefox have just revealed their new Persona range of exclusive headers for their browser! Why get stuck with the usual boring grey when you can customise your browser to any design you want-you can even design your own!

The method is simple, just follow the instructions on the website itself and in four easy steps you can upload the header and footer for free for others to use.

Tea* in Design Week again!

designweek_TM.jpg

We here at tea* are really proud to announce that we have made it into Design Week for the second time, due to our ongoing work with Talkmobile!

We have recently finished work on the new tariff offer by Talkmobile, featuring whole new creatives working alongside the previous designs created by tea* for TM.

We are really proud of the work, and couldn’t be happier of being in DW again!

History of an archetype: The Batman Emblem

Insignia from Batman (1989)

Fitting the description of an archetype perfectly, the Batman emblem is one that was in place when the Dark Knight made his debut nearly 7 decades ago, and one from which all subsequent designs have been based, some more drastically different than others, but all recognisable as Batman’s insignia.

When the Batman first appeared in 1939 in the pages of Detective Comics; a dour figure in black and grey against a bright yellow sky, the emblem blazed across his chest ready made. The archetype had been set: a single black bat, wings spread wide, with the ears of the Batman’s cowl.

Iron Man 2 Review (contains spoilers)

Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 - Film Review by Roberto Acuna

Two years after the original came out of nowhere, ol’ shellhead returns to the big screen, and with no batsuits or spider webs anywhere in sight, he might get the summer all to himself. But would he deserve it?

Well, kind of.

World Cup (Sticker) Fever

Panini Trading

The World Cup in South Africa is nearly upon us and we here at the office (well, two thirds) have started to get in the spirit of things: getting the beers and barbecue in ready for the big game, checking out the Rocky Horror Picture Show hairstyles of yesteryear, salivating at the prospect of our boys losing again, and buying the official World Cup sticker album! What better way to show your love for your country than by collecting the team in small rectangular form, showing your support for the players with ever so slightly crooked stuck on portraits? Those were the days!

Good luck England!

England to Win!

Just a quick post to wish our boys the best of luck in South Africa! The TV is tuned, the beer is cold, we’ve listened to the England songs on spotify countless times. It’s time for the big one!

COME ON ENGLAND!

Four Lions Film Review

Chris Morris' Four Lions - Film Review by Roberto Acuna

The film debut of Brass Eye mastermind Chris Morris was always going to be an event to savour for some, and one to revile for others. The man did not disappoint. The subject for his debut comedy was unsurprisingly surprising: Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. A cornerstone of any great comedy.

Luckily for me I like my comedy dark.

Half geek – half luddite

Organic Life

Today I was flicking through my Facebook page and found some old notes from a blog long forgotten and I came across this article from howies.co.uk which is quite old now but I still hold close to my heart….

Half geek – half luddite

“I am a contradiction.

On one hand I love broadband, but I also love food the old slow way.

I love apple computers, but as for the apples I eat, well, I don’t want them to be sprayed with chemicals.

I love the fact that e-mail lets me to talk to the world, but I like to shop local for our vegetables.

We Are The World Cup Appreciation Society!

A Cup Confession by Roberto Acuna

I’ve tried to ignore it. I’ve gone with a lifetime habit and just said I’m not into it. It’s not my thing. Though not my choice, most of the time I welcomed the sound of a match as a nice change of pace from the usual bands or films we put on in the background, but that was the limit of my involvement, the peak of my interest. Just something different to listen to while at work.

The World Cup Viewing Experience

The bane of the World Cup by Roberto Acuna

Surfing Youtube recently, I came across this funny little piece of World Cup association. Trying to include those who have missed the football by accident or design, Youtube has very graciously included a button feature on their videos that goes some way to replicating the viewing experience of World Cup 2010.

A small icon on the right side of the settings bar, the football symbol almost slipped me by, as it seemed to have always been there. I pressed the icon out of curiosity, only to have me jump out of my skin, and have my ear drums explode (I was using earphones at the time).

We have the balls

Ecoballs

My wife is pregnant with our second son and is blooming! Those of you who have had this amazing experience or are going through it will know that pregnant women are 'great'. My wife developed a heightened sense of smell which made her heave at the smell of most washing detergents and fabric softeners.

Creativitea* in Design Week!

in
Design Week Article

Tea*’s work was recognised by it’s peers this week when we were featured on Design Week’s website, due to the work in creating the new updated site for natterjacks.com.

Having built the original website for Natterjacks, creating the online presence for one of the leading UK urban clothes outlets, we were the natural choice for the revamp and relaunch, an achievement acknowledged by Design Week as worthy of recognition.

Geek Squad Teaser Video

Creativitea* was approached to work with the Geek Squad, the 24 hour tech support team, the one “in cahoots with the Carphone Warehouse” on their new website launch video, and we couldn’t have been happier to do it (we can smell our own kind)!

We produced a short teaser promo for the Geeks to show to their chiefs, featuring full motion graphics depicting each page of their new site, and each feature of the page highlighted. Here’s the teaser in all its Geeky glory:

10 Favoured Apps and Programs

We are now in a day where there is an app for everything, our lives are pretty much run by small program applications from everything from deciding what to eat for tonight’s dinner to personal banking.

Currently my job role at Creativitea is so varied I need to be organised and need tools that are efficient and won’t break the bank.

So what are the best apps out there? Well I can’t answer that as there are so many but I can give you an overview of the apps I use, why I use them and where to get them.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984 illustrated covers by Shepard Fairey

orwell.jpg

I was over the moon this Christmas when I received these great books as a gift.  I am quite a fan of George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm and wish I paid more attention when I studied parts of them at school! These versions by Penguin Books have great illustrated covers by the famous contemporary artist Shepard Fairey, who is favoured amongst the guys here at Creativitea for his work for Obey Giant and his eye catching graphic paste ups.

Introducing Prole – New British Graphic Artist

Helvetica: Love it or Hate it?

One of the most popular typefaces of all time

A brief history: – sourced from Wikipedia 2010.

Helvetica was developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger with Eduard Hoffmann at the Haas’sche Schriftgiesserei (Haas type foundry) of Münchenstein, Switzerland. Haas set out to design a new sans-serif typeface that could compete with Akzidenz-Grotesk in the Swiss market. Originally called Die Neue Haas Grotesk, it was created based on Schelter-Grotesk. The aim of the new design was to create a neutral typeface that had great clarity, had no intrinsic meaning in its form, and could be used on a wide variety of signage.

James Cameron's Avatar - Film Review by Roberto Acuna

Finally, after a wait that seemed like centuries, the long fabled return of JC has taken place…in my lifetime.  In London.  At 00.30 at night.  I honestly didn’t think it would happen. Certainly not with Bill Bailey in attendance. But hey, the Lord works in mysterious ways.  So was it worth the wait?

The answer- breaking a million hater geek hearts- is Yes! Yes! Yes!

Papio: The Baboonylon Mascot

Papio: The Baboonylon Mascot. Designed by Creativitea. Team member: Roberto Acuna/ Illustrator and artworker

Papio is ape about sky diving!!! He is a Mandrill baboon from the Mandrillus sphinx family.

The Mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) is a primate of the Cercopithecidae (Old-world monkeys) family, closely related to the baboons and even more closely to the Drill. Both the Mandrill and the Drill were once classified as baboons in genus Papio, but recent research has determined that they should be separated into their own genus, Mandrillus. The Mandrill is the world’s largest species of monkey. The word mandrill means “man-ape” according to the Oxford English Dictionary

Best Brief Ever

The best client brief ever!

Every now and again someone sends us gold. And this has to be it.

The brief from a client can be a nightmare for some designers, although it’s something that here at tea we enjoy; the process and the excitement of a new project and its out come.

But below has to be one of the best briefs you can get.

Inception Film Review by Roberto Acuna

Inception

The seventh film from Christopher Nolan, the director of arguably the best superhero film ever made and fast becoming one of my favourite directors, is here, and it’s a dream. (Sorry).
